2 Key Elements

When a new team member joins a company, there so many things on the to do list.

It is difficult to know what to focus, especially in the first week.

Almost every onboarding initiative should aim to Equip and Inspire a new team member.

We want to equip team members with the tools and know-how to get off to a good start

We also want to inspire them by making them feel welcome and making them feel good about their choice to join the team

4 Things we can do

Next we will talk about four things we can do to give the best first impression and get our new team member off to the right start.

1. Prepare Before the first day

Onboarding doesn’t begin when they are on their first day.

Before a new team member joins:

• make sure they receive an employee manual
• get all the hardware and software they need
• have a way to connect to you via phone, chat, or email

2 Use video chat whenever possible.

It is the closest thing we have to a face to face conversation.

3.1 on 1 Time

Schedule a one on one with your new team member to go over work duties, expectations and answer any questions they might have.

This will also be a good time to review their schedule and what they should be focused on for the first week.

Communication is important for a remote team member to be successful.

4. Create an opportunity to connect with others.

You could assign a veteran team member to connect and be available for their first day.

You might want to ask other team members to reach out say hello

You could also give your new hire a list of contacts, so they know who is on the team.
